Common questions

Do the alarms really work with the phone locked?

Yes. When you start a session, every flip and sunscreen alert is scheduled up front as a real notification with sound, and a Live Activity countdown appears on your lock screen. The app does not need to stay open. Make sure notifications are allowed (iOS Settings > TanWise > Notifications) and that your phone is not in a Focus mode that silences time-sensitive alerts.

Why does your UV number match the Weather app?

Because it is the same data: TanWise uses Apple Weather. If another app shows a different number, ask them where theirs comes from.

Is the timer really free?

Yes, forever: the personalized tan timer, alarms, live UV and hourly curve, best-time window, today's vitamin D estimate, the widget, Health sync, and CSV export. Pro adds history, forecasts, family profiles, and extra widgets.

How do I cancel or restore a subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: iOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions. In the app, Settings > Restore purchases re-activates Pro on a new device. Trials remind you before they convert.

How accurate are the burn estimates?

They are educational estimates from published UV science (your skin type's typical erythemal dose, the live UV index, and your sunscreen), deliberately conservative, and not medical advice. Sweat, water, altitude, reflection, and medication can change your real-world response. When in doubt, cover up.

Where is my data stored?

On your device and in your personal iCloud. There is no TanWise server. See the privacy policy.
